A professional refinishing job can make your tub look brand new for 10–15 years – but only if you take care of it properly. The good news? Maintaining a refinished tub is easier than you might think.
The First 48 Hours: Critical Curing Time
The most important thing you can do for your new finish happens right after we leave:
DO NOT use the tub for 24–48 hours. The coating needs time to fully cure. Using it too soon can leave permanent marks, dull the finish, or cause peeling.
During this time:
• Keep the bathroom well-ventilated
• Don't let anything touch the tub surface
• Avoid running water in the tub
• Don't place items on the edges
Daily Care: The Simple Routine
Once cured, your refinished tub is surprisingly low-maintenance:
Cleaning (Weekly)
Use: Mild dish soap (like Dawn) and a soft cloth or sponge
Avoid: Abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or anything with bleach
Simply wipe down the tub with soapy water, rinse, and dry. That's it. No special products needed.
Preventing Damage (Ongoing)
Use a rubber bath mat – But choose one with suction cups, not a full-bottom mat. Full mats trap water and can damage the finish over time.
Rinse after each use – A quick rinse removes soap and shampoo residue before it can build up.
Dry the surface – If you notice water spots forming, wipe the tub dry after use.
Products to NEVER Use
These common household products will damage your refinished surface:
❌ **Bleach** – Breaks down the coating
❌ **Abrasive cleaners** (Comet, Ajax) – Scratches the surface
❌ **Magic Erasers** – Too abrasive for refinished surfaces
❌ **Acetone or nail polish remover** – Dissolves the coating
❌ **Drain cleaners** – Can damage the coating around the drain
❌ **Colored bath bombs** – Can stain the surface
Signs Your Tub Needs Attention
Watch for these early warning signs:
• Small chips or scratches appearing
• Dull spots where the shine has worn away
• Rough texture developing in high-use areas
